Audacity - free, easy-to-use audio editor for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU / Linux and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to record audio, digitize analog recordings (cassettes, LPs), edit the files in Ogg Vorbis, MP3 and WAV, the physical editing of multiple files (cutting, gluing, mixing), change the speed or pitch of a recording, and much more .
Features:
: Record
: Audacity can record sound from the outside with a microphone built into the OS or mixer channel Line In, which can connect a cassette player, record player or minidisc. With some sound cards and can record streaming audio.
: Record from microphone, line input or other sources.
: Record while listening to the existing tracks.
: Record up to 16 channels at once (requires multi-channel sound card).
: Volume indicators before, during, and after recording.
Import and export of audio data
: You can import sound files into the project Audacity, change them, together with other files or new recordings, and export the result in several common file formats.
: Import and export files in WAV, AIFF, AU, and Ogg Vorbis.
: Import audio to MPEG (including MP2 and MP3) with libmad.

: The smooth change in volume by editing tool envelope.
Effects
Change the pitch without changing tempo, and vice versa.
Removing static noise, hum, hiss and other noise permanent record of defects.
Changing the frequency response with the equalizer, FFT-filter and bass boost effect.
Adjust the volume using the compressor, or the effect of strengthening and normalization.
Other built-in effects:
Echo
Phaser
Wahwah
U-turn
The sound quality
Record and edit 16/24/32-bitnyh (32bit - float) audio data.
Sampling frequency to 96 kHz.
Conversion sampling rates and bit depths are manufactured using high quality resampling algorithms and dithering.
Mixing tracks with different quality characteristics with an automatic conversion to the characteristics of the project in real time.
Modules (Plug-Ins)
You can always add new LADSPA-ins.
Audacity includes some LADSPA-modules, Steve Harris (Steve Harris).
The use of VST-modules for Windows and Mac using separate downloadable module VST Enabler.
Creating your own effects with a simple built-in language Nyquist.
Analysis
Spectrographic display mode tracks.
The command "Draw a graph of the spectrum" for a detailed analysis of the frequency characteristics.
Freedom to use and multiplatform
The program is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Works in Mac OS X, Windows, GNU / Linux and some Unix-systems.
